If you need financial help its not neccessary to apply for student loans it is possible that you are eligiable to apply for a grant. You can apply for a grant either online or by paper. Once you finish your course the student loan will have to be paid back when you start to earn over £15000 a year.Generally the repayment will start at the begining of the next finanacial year. Once you are required to repay the loan your employer will be notified and the repayments will be taken directly from your earnings, the repayments are not tax deductable.

There are some factors to consider when checking if you are eligible to recieve financial help from the government, your course and indeed you need to meet some conditions therefore were you live and the course you are doing will be key factors along with a number of other criteria.So eligibility is generally based on two checks which are your personal eligibility and course and institutional eligibility. When you apply these two checks will be carries out by Student Finance England.
Personal Eligibility, to qualify you need to meet certain nationality and residence conditions also your age maybe taken into consideration
Course and Institution Eligibility, this is bases on the college or university you are studying along with the actual course you are taking.
There are different rules which apply if you normally live outside England or the course you are undertaking is outside the UK, also if you are undertaking a post graduate course and teacher training.

To help students with the costs of further education the government is offering financial support which is available through Student Finance England Service. Ideally you need to find out what is available in advance this will allow you to concentrate on preparing for you new life at college or university. If you are a full time student then the main sources of finance are: Student Loans and grants from the government. Bursaries from your university or college.

Two Student Loans can be taken out per academic year, one which will help with tuition fees and another for Student maintenance which will help with living costs such as accommodation, the amount which you receive is dependant on your household income.
